The Volunteer Club and Social Club at the Deanship of Student Affairs - Abu Dhabi Campus at Al Ain University organized a student visit to the Elderly Care Home under the Social Services Department in Sharjah. The visit was supervised by Dr. Samer Abdulhadi and Dr. Nahla Al Shalabi from the College of Education, Humanities, and Social Sciences. The visit aimed to strengthen connections between students and the elderly and to explore the range of healthcare, therapeutic, and recreational services provided to residents at the center. The visit’s program included interactions between students and the elderly residents, where they engaged in conversations, listened to life stories, and shared experiences, adding a profound human element to the students’ journey. The students also presented small gifts to the elderly, reflecting their desire to bring joy to their hearts and foster a spirit of community support. Staff members at the center provided an informative overview of respectful ways to interact with the elderly and an introduction to the therapeutic and recreational services that contribute to improving the residents’ quality of life. The students expressed deep appreciation for this enriching experience, which offered them a greater understanding of the needs of the elderly and raised their awareness of their social role in supporting this population segment. They praised Al Ain University’s efforts in organizing such visits, noting the positive impact on their personal development, as these experiences instill values of giving, social responsibility, and intergenerational communication.
